Deacon Ken Liu originally came to faith in the Taiwanese Presbyterian Church as a teen, but after discovering the spiritual depth and beauty of Orthodoxy, was received into the Orthodox Church with his wife Diaconissa Irene and two sons, Nathan and Jason, at St. Mary’s in 2009. St. Mary’s has been a wonderful spiritual home for him and his family. Deacon Ken has served on the Parish Council, sung in the choir, and taught Sunday school. After completing the OCA Diaconal Vocations Program, Deacon Ken was ordained to the diaconate by Bishop Andrei at St. Mary’s in November 2024 and is grateful for the chance to serve the Church in this new role.

Diaconissa Irene has also taught Sunday school, served as Sunday school principal, and co-leads the Fellowship Hour ministry. Both Nathan and Jason (now young adults) have served in various Orthodox ministries, including Orthodox Christian Fellowship, Project Mexico, and Antiochian Village Camp.

Deacon Ken is a graduate of the University of Virginia and Cornell Law School. He has been an intellectual property and nonprofit law attorney serving churches, ministries, and other nonprofit organizations for over 25 years at the law firm of Gammon & Grange. He currently also works part-time as General Counsel & Senior Advisor of Orthodox Youth & Young Adult Ministries (OYM), and serves as a consultant to the Assembly of Orthodox Bishops’ Legal Affairs Committee. Deacon Ken founded the Orthodox Christian Attorney Network (OCAN) as an informal group in 2017, and established it as a formal nonprofit organization in 2024 with a mission to serve attorneys, the Orthodox Church, and the world.
