It’s back to school season, and St. Mary’s Church School can use your help as we prepare for the new term! Church school provides a structured environment for children to learn about the Orthodox Faith, and the importance of leading a life of virtue as guided by the teachings of Christ and the lives of saints.
If you enjoy working with children or want to support our school in other ways, there are many opportunities to do so. Here are some upcoming needs:
- Teachers. We’re currently seeking middle school (6th–8th grade) teachers for fall, winter, and spring terms. Teachers can sign up for one term or multiple terms. There is a curriculum available with preset lesson plans, so minimal prep is needed for each class. We’re also seeking volunteers who can train and become certified in Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (Level 1 or 2), so that we can continue this approach in our younger classrooms for years to come.
- Substitutes. If you’d like to help in the classroom but can’t make a weekly commitment, you can choose to be on call as a substitute when a teacher is absent.
- Nativity Pageant Director. Pageant practice runs from mid-November to mid-December. The Pageant Director determines the script, coordinates with the Choir Director, directs children during rehearsals, and obtains supplies.
- Church School Food Servers. This year, we hope to have 2-3 dedicated volunteers who can serve food to children downstairs before class. Food will be provided by the fellowship hour host group.
- Assistant Superintendent. Assist the Superintendent with organizing educational activities throughout the year, coordinating volunteers, and helping with other church school related tasks as needed.
